Flooding Damage At The Opryland Hotel Is Beyond Measurable

The recent Tennessee flooding of the Cumberland River has extensively damaged parts of Nashville, including the Opryland Hotel flooding. Right across from the Grand Ole Opry itself, is the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, of which the Opryland Hotel is a part. Heavy damage has also been done to the home of country music. This kind of damage takes a lot more than a little instant money to undo.

Opryland Hotel flooding fallout

The Opryland Hotel flooding damaged a central part of Nashville tourism. The Opryland Hotel complex, or the Gaylord Opryland Resort, is a large resort. A luxury hotel, convention center and multitude of recreational activities are accessible there. Tennessee unemployment is expected to shoot through the roof, and it isn’t known how many are out of work due to the floods. Guests of the Opryland Hotel were evacuated several days ago.

What about the Grand Ole Opry?

Right across the way from the Opryland Hotel and Resort sits the Grand Ole Opry, the heart and soul of country music. The Grand Ole Opry House was damaged by the flooding, and upcoming concerts are moved to different venues, as outlined by CNN. The last time the Grand Ole Opry had to make similar arrangements was in 1975, also since the Cumberland River overflowed. What’s next?

It can be a while before a full recovery will be made from the flood. The Cumberland flows right through downtown Nashville, and it’s not just the tourism industry that is affected. The Opryland Hotel flooding closed down a large employer and attraction within the area. The waters have started to recede, but the full extent of the damage is yet to be seen.
