As it comes to an end October. third, the outcome of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) was better than expected and price less than once feared . In a toxic political climate, Troubled Asset Relief Program became a symbol of government waste and an opportunity for Republicans to co-opt the word “bailout” as a weapon to inflict damage on the opposition . The fact that TARP saved Wall Street, automakers and insurance giants, yet failed to perceptibly help ordinary Americans has Democrats on the defensive over a policy enacted by the previous Republican administration.
What TARP will end up being
All payments will continue to be collected from TARP although, Sunday, it will no longer give out loan. Fortune at Cable News Network reports that it is been two years since Congress gave $700 billion to the Treasury Department to prevent an economic collapse. The economy is getting better slowly while TARP’s last bill is less than numerous thought it would be. Also, Wall Street is resuming old business. The Treasury claims the government did not give them all of the funds. Only $386 billion really went to them. The government is getting the cash back at higher rates than they thought it would be at. Tim Geithner says that in the end, TARP will only have expenses $50 billion. Geithner is the Treasury Secretary.
Awful reaction because of TARP
The Washington Post explained that Troubled Asset Relief Program was just a little bit of money the government spent. The government tried saving the financial system by spending a ton of money. The mortgage and housing market was something the Treasury and Federal Reserve thought needed saving. They spent over $1.5 trillion trying to help this. The bailouts have also helped the government get a little more control. It is part of the private sectors with this. As a result, political extremists are painting economic rescue as a socialist takeover. Many are against the government at present because of this. That means that midterm elections aren’t looking so good for all of those individuals who voted for TARP.
Political figures and views on TARP
. ABC News reports that Republicans are hoping to take advantage of TARP’s unpopularity by linking Democrats and Obama to “bailout,” which has become the dirtiest word in politics. For example, at an press conference Aug. 10, House Republicans used the word at least seven times when badmouthing a $26 billion state fiscal aid package moving via Congress. The Republican “Pledge to America” vowed permanently to end the program, even though it has expired already on its own.
